I’m not a kitschy person

but I laughed (and cringed) at some of the Christian kitsch on display. I clicked on the link to learn why there is a pooping Pope. I didn’t vote, but you have to admit that commenter Tim came up with some great categories: Someone’s going to Hell for This and I’d Buy that for a [...]

I’ve been busy.

I’m watching my two nieces in the afternoon to help my one sister while my other sister, their mommy, is in Paris at the Ritz. (Yeah, one of these days I’ll see the Ritz.) So I’ve been very busy in the afternoons and evening. Mornings I’ve been working on papers. I have one written and [...]

Holland isn’t as happy with their drugs as previously thought.

New restrictions on marijuana selling cafés, a ban on the sale of magic mushrooms and plans to clean up Amsterdam’s red light district have been announced across Holland. “The nation’s ideals are being tested by the reality they brought,” said sociologist Dick Houtman of Rotterdam’s Erasmus University. “The Netherlands went further in allowing all sorts [...]

Introvert? Or not?

Posted: Monday, December 15th, 2008 @ 9:19 pm in My Life | No Comments »

I’ve taken the Myers-Briggs test over 20 years and usually I come out ENFP or (rarely) ENFJ. But I took a version recently and came out INFJ. So my husband and I were talking about whether or not I have become an introvert and what that means for my life. Then Happy Catholic had this [...]

E was not accepted to UPenn. I am sad in one way; he wanted to go. In another way I am relieved; Pennsylvania is far away ad $54000 is a lot of money. We have no idea why. Was it because he was homeschooled? Or was it because he didn’t have a lot of outside [...]

Would I rather….

have all of my teeth fall out with no replacements OR have one eye close and never open again? Assuming the other eye works, I’d rather have my eye close. But if there’s an issue (which there is potentially) I guess I’d rather have to eat strained peas. Live next door to a convicted killer [...]

If I could go back in time,

If I could go back in time, what would I become professionally? And I thought I like being a teacher. But maybe, maybe, if I went back now, I would have a full-time job now that paid full-time wages. So… I guess teaching is still what I want to do.

That is the difference, I find, between what I think of America and what my son, re-learning American history off the left’s internet, believes. Read the story of how an immigrant child became a radical college student and a disenchanted adult before making the journey to becoming an American. It is brilliantl

A different approach to what am I doing: Rethinking my vocation

After 40 years and a PhD, I am wondering if I am really cut out to be a teacher. CC1 only about half my students stick around. More stick in classes that were on the schedule to start with. Perhaps one way to feel better about classes there is to not take last-minute additions. CC2 [...]

A Libertarian case for pro-life is well-written and well argued. While I have never supported abortion, I have considered the possibility that it was necessary for rape victims. But the author gives an excellent and legitimate parallel to explain why it is not. By this example, we see that responsibility is the inevitable result of [...]

Yep, it’s cold. Most places, not just here. Reading Facebook will show you that. I shivered today, a lot, and couldn’t get cold at lunch. But tonight I’m taking a heavy coat I had thought of giving away, and gloves, and a hat, and a scarf. I will be warm.

Poem a Day: The Wedding

The Wedding of Angela and Jonathan November 22, 2008 Solvang, California Green grass spread wide for a wedding. Angels rained confetti seeds on the garden. White calla lilies bunched with heirloom carnations and a single white rose held together with white silk ribbon heralded the matron of honor and the bride. The bride, in high [...]

It’s Christmas time in the city.

I went to a Christmas party today, all dressed up in my Christmas best. Their house was decked to the gills and absolutely beautiful. When we got home I wrapped presents for our angel tree kids. It helped. It really did. It’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas.

I miss Christmas…. And joy over why I don’t need Christmas.

Was Christmas ever really fun and joyful? Sometimes I feel like it is just another responsibility. Who do I need to get presents for? Who do I need to help with what? My kiddos never believed in Santa so it isn’t the magic of make-believe that I miss. That’s not it. I miss all the [...]
