Easy prison better than hard

This article on boingboing declares that lenient Finnish prisons reduce recidivism, an issue that I am interested in, especially these days. (More on that later.)

These prisons don't have walls and barbed wire and they have houses where inmates can have their spouses and children in for a short vacation. (Where did you go for holiday? Oh, we popped in to see Bob. Played backgammon and scrabble and watched the snow. The kids loved seeing their dad. He was so great with them. Took care of them the whole four days.)
